Romain is a student at KEDGE and he is going to tour Europe on a bike in order to raise money to fight against multiple sclerosis

On June 10, 2017, Romain Porché (PGE 2017) will climb aboard his bike, along with a childhood friend, and pedal 13,000 kms over the next 6 months. A sporting feat, but also a humanitarian endeavor: the overarching goal throughout the European tour will be

To start, please tell us about yourself! What was your personal and education background before you started out at KEDGE?

I obtained my BAC-STG in Communications, then pursued a two-year DUT in Marketing Techniques at the IUT in Figeac. Then I decided to pursue a degree in business, so I did an ATS Prep program for the third year of my license. I joined the PGE Master's programme at KEDGE BS in Bordeaux in September 2016. I have been participating in triathlons since high school and in February 2015 I participated in the 4L Trophy by creating my own non-profit. Over the summer, I work as a sales person in a swimming pool shop.

Tell us about your European bike tour? Where did you get the idea?

On June 10, 2017, I will take off with a family friend for a 13,000 km-bike tour across Europe with a childhood friend. Our non-profit has a partnership with fondation ARSEP (Aide à la Recherche sur le Sclérose En Plaques - Support for Research on Multiple Sclerosis) and we have committed to raising 1€ for every 10 km to support the cause. The idea came from our desire to have a shared experience. We were in contact with the vice-President of ARSEP and after speaking with him we decided to help them in their fundraising activities, and increase the visibility of the Foundation, at our small scale. In order to raise money, we will produce a web-series every two weeks, which will be available on our website and on social media to promote our project. You can also help out by participating in our crowdfunding campaign.

What are your plans once you finish the tour of Europe?

My plan, once the tour is over (Christmas 2017), is to do an internship in a company, then do a work-study programme for my Master's degree in Project Development/Marketing. On the non-profit side, the plan is to support as many organisations as possible by highlighting sports feats to raise money for MS.

How has your time at KEDGE Business School helped you in the development of your project?

My education at KEDGE allowed me to gain a theoretical basis in project management and communication. Since our project is very innovative, it is essential to communicate about it a lot. Furthermore, the Year Away programme provided me with the opportunity to take 6 months off to complete this project, which means a great deal to me, while at the same time enabling me to gain experience abroad. I really advise those that want to do a similar project not to hesitate but also not to jump in with both feet first. You have to take the time to evaluate the different possibilities that are available, in terms of budget, equipment, etc. A well-prepared project is key to its future success.
